Gavin turned five years old today. Where has the time gone? It seems just like yesterday that little stinker was keeping us up all night. Now here he is keeping us on our toes everyday. This year has been quite exciting looking back. Gavin has turned into such a sweet little man. We had him tested for Kindergarten a few weeks back and the lady who tested him told me..."I don't know how to describe what I want to say about your son. There just seems to be something special about him. You can just tell that he has such a sweet little soul." It was so nice to hear that about him. She also told me that he has an extensive vocabulary, is very detailed, and scored way above the possible highest score to get. Okay, I'm bragging a little aren't I? Just relaying what she told me. Maybe that explains why he is sooo busy all the time. It did surprise me a little bit because he won't allow me to teach him anything. He just wants to learn everything on his own. Kind of like when he wrote his name for us when he was three even though we had never taught him how to write letters.
He told me the other day when we were reading the Bible that one thing God made him wait a long time for and have patience for was waiting for his baby brother, Micah, to arrive. He said, "We had to wait, and wait, and wait and then finally summer came and Micah was here!". He said, "Well mom, that was a time when God made me have a super lot of patience and then gave me a gift at the end."
Gavin started really playing well with Aubri this past year. He loves her dearly. He is always watching out for her when we go to indoor parks, stores, etc. He makes sure that she's with him and okay. It's so fun to watch them interact together. I pray that God would keep all of sibling relationships strong throughout life.
He brings laughter to all of us, especially Micah. Micah starts giggling as soon as Gavin walks in the room. He must be funny. I'm always amazed at how long he can just sit with Micah and play with him. He never seems to get bored doing it. He just pours out so much love. I'd also be fibbing if I didn't say that he also makes us roll our eyes with all of his poopy, eyeball, hairy pants, baby, doodoo, and other jokes. They are funny at first, but you can only take so many of those in one day.
Gavin learned how to ride bike this year without training wheels. He was in swimming lessons, baseball, and soccer. He loved lying down in the dirt and just getting plain dirty! He also enjoyed going to his daddy's softball games, flying kites at the park with dad, swimming at the beach, and playing with friends and neighbors.
His favorite foods are: Rice krispie bars, pizza rolls, pizza, french fries, Chicken nuggets , cupcakes, etc...We don't feed him those items everyday but he would be happy if we did.
And yes, he is still obsessed with Superheroes!
I had the opportunity to volunteer in his classroom today and it was so fun. I enjoy just doing the simple things with Gavin because I'm usually tending to a need the smaller ones have most of the day. One of our favorite activities to do before bed is summarize our day starting from getting up in the morning. We both tell our own summary of the day but he usually likes to add certain details that I have forgotten. Sometimes I feel guilty when we do this that I'm not spending enough time with him during the day. It's a good way for me to evaluate what's most important each day.
If I had to describe Gavin in a few short words: funny, social, busy, and family orientated. We have offered to take him places on his own but he always wants his brother and sister with.
So here's to Gavin and his Sweet Little Soul on his Fifth Birthday!

Happy belated birthday, Gav! I remembered it, but was on the road traveling to Cambie this weekend and never got around to emailing. I loved hearing about him and his favorite things. When I saw him last summer, I was struck by how sweet and mature he had become...they grow up so fast! I even look at his face in these pictures and am amazed at how he has lost that "baby look". You have a little man on your hands!
